A white background gets in the way when you place a logo on a color or on another picture. This tool makes everything very light in the image transparent and gives you back a PNG with no background. There are no settings: the threshold is fixed, so it is quick on logos and illustrations with a plain white background, and less suited to photos.

How to Remove the White Background of an Image

  1. 1

    Upload Your Image

Pick an image on a white background (JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF or GIF). Drag it into the tool or choose it on your device.

  2. 2

Let the Tool Erase the White

Every very light pixel becomes transparent, automatically.

  3. 3

    Download Your PNG

Get a PNG with a transparent background, ready to place on any color.

Your original image is not changed. The transparent PNG is a separate file.

What Becomes Transparent

The tool looks at every pixel. If its red, green and blue values are all above 200 out of 255, the pixel becomes fully transparent. That covers pure white, but also very light grays and pale tints.

There is no tolerance setting, no choice of color to erase and no edge smoothing. A white area inside the subject, such as a shirt collar or a highlight, disappears too, and a light fringe may remain on the outline. For an image with shadows, or a background that is not white, the Background Remover is a better fit.

Common Uses

A transparent background lets you place an image in another design.

  • A logo on a colored backgroundPlace a logo on a banner or a website with no white box around it.
  • An illustration to insertPut a drawing on a presentation or a poster.
  • A product photoPrepare a product shot on white for a store.
  • A scanned signatureLay a signature over a document.

Tips for Best Results

  • Start from an image with a clean, plain white background: the more even it is, the cleaner the result.
  • Prefer a PNG to a JPG: JPG compression creates variations around the edges.
  • Check the result on a dark background to spot any light fringe.
  • Avoid subjects that contain white: it would be erased too.
  • Keep the original so you can try another tool if needed.

Remove White Background Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tool do?

It makes the white background of an image transparent and saves the result as a PNG. It treats as white any pixel whose red, green and blue values are all above 200 out of 255.

Can I pick which color to remove, or set a tolerance?

No. The threshold is fixed, and the tool does not let you pick another color to erase.

Why do white areas inside my subject disappear too?

Because the tool erases everything very light, not only the background. A white shirt collar, a highlight or white text inside the subject becomes transparent as well.

Why does a light fringe remain around my subject?

The edges of an image are often slightly softened, with very light grays that the threshold does not all erase. There is no edge smoothing.

Which images work well?

Logos, illustrations and products photographed on a plain white background. Photos with shadows, gradients or a background that is not white work less well.

Is this AI background removal?

No. It is a simple color threshold. To cut out a subject from any background, use the Background Remover.

What format is the result?

Always a PNG with transparency, whatever the original format.

Is a JPG background really white?

Often only nearly white because of compression. The wide threshold (above 200 out of 255) covers those variations.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes, it depends on your plan: no account, a free account, or a paid plan. The current limits are listed on the Pricing page.

Do I need to install any software?

No. The tool runs in your browser, with no software to download.

Is my file kept private?

Yes. Your file is processed over HTTPS and automatically deleted from our servers within 30 minutes.
